Mustang Powder was voted the best of catskiing in 2011! The criteria were:
This season we are going provide all of our guests with small backpacks containing an avalanche shovel and probe. For safety reasons it will be mandatory for all guests to carry one of these backpacks. Everyone will still take turns skiing at the back of the group - but now just to be courteous!
We are very excited to announce the biggest addition for the upcoming season - some new helicopter options for coming to the lodge. As in previous years, you can come to Mustang via helicopter from Silver Star Resort, Kelowna airport, Revelstoke or our Malakwa trailhead. Alternatively, you can now choose to heli ski to Mustang Lodge. This unique experience is provided by Eagle Pass Heliskiing, and must be booked directly through them - click here for more information. Please be sure to let us know if you will be arriving at the lodge by helicopter for your ski vacation.
The Small Groups, Steep Chutes program is no longer brand new but a lot of people are still not familiar with it. Check out the Small Groups, Steep Chutes section of our website for more details. If you are a strong skier/boarder who enjoys steep challenging terrain and isn't afraid of a little ski touring, then this snowcat is definitely where you want to be.
For many years Mustang Powder has been a 24 guest operation, so the addition of 6 more guests has caused some minor changes in how the lodge operates. The most noticable change for our guests will be the fact that we have modified the main entrance area to make things less crowded, especially during the morning rush to get out skiing. The old ski guides' office/meeting room is now a guest drying room, and several staff bedrooms have been converted into a new guides' office. We think returning guests will notice and appreciate the extra space for hanging snowy gear and reduced congestion.
Our snowcat workshop has been expanded so that we can now get two cats sleeping inside for the night. The extra space will also allow our mechanic to work on snowcats and snowmobiles simultaneous. Above the workshop are new apartments for staff.
Our faithul old yellow cat named Freya has been our emergency backup cat for many years. She was a great old girl and served us well when needed, however her passenger cab was small and not particularly comfortable or popular among the guests or media groups who used her occasionally. We have now acquired a newer, younger back-up cat which is a red Pisten Bully like the others in the fleet. We have put a big comfortable passenger cab on it so that if we have a problem with one of our regular front-line snowcats the backup alternative is virtually as comfortable.
